2019-05-16 · The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden Review. The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden is a book that I’ve been seeing everywhere for a long time. I’ve wanted to read it forever. But for some reason it took me ages to pick it up.

2017-01-22 The Bear and the Nightingale is a dark fairytale, and like any good dark fairytale, it has a lot of meaning beneath the surface. This book deals primarily with religious oppression, and the way religion can be used for destruction. But it also deals with the specificity of the destruction of nature. I read a lot of mixed reviews of this book. Some people loved the atmosphere. Others longed for more plot.

The bear and the nightingale review

You’ve definitely helped convince me that I need to check out this book as soon as possible. 2017-01-10 · Before I get to my actual review of The Bear and the Nightingale (possibly my longest review ever), I have a little note: Dear 2017, I’m sure you’re aware of what a suck-tastic year 2016 was, for so many people. I really appreciate your efforts to make up for it by giving us this amazing treasure of a book so early in the year. 2017-04-13 · (I'm working on writing better reviews, so from now on they'll look different than what I was posting before. The first book in the series, The Bear and the Nightingale, sets up our main character, Vasya’s, life. The book really starts after she is born , when she turns about 6 years old. We see her become a rambunctious, adventurous child — someone who would rather be outside in a tree than sewing by the fire. 2018-02-21 · Book Review: The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden You will see as this blog progresses that I have a major thing for fairy tale retellings.

The Bear and the Nightingale is Katherine Arden’s debut novel from Del Ray Books. It may seem bold to say that this novel will be one of my top ten reads of 2017 (especially considering it was the novel I was reading as the new year began) but I am 100% confident that this will be one of the best books I read this year. It’s one for cold winter nights when snow falls and leaves have left their trees. In a sentence, this book The Bear and the Nightingale is very character-driven. So don’t expect big plot twists or action scenes.

But it also deals with the specificity of the destruction of nature. These problems aside, The Bear and the Nightingale is a pleasure to spend time with. A rich and elegant debut, at its best it makes a season of Russian fairy tales and grows wonderful characters I read a lot of mixed reviews of this book. Some people loved the atmosphere.
